Gondola Island
Later name for the island used as the western route point in the controlled passage between Asylum Rock and Pandora's Rock.
Gondola Island is the later name attached to the route point from which supplies and passengers could be moved toward Asylum Rock and onward to Pandora's Rock. The name appears to derive from the transport system rather than from the island's older history.
Its significance was previously understood as mainly practical: records concerning Asylum Rock's site selection repeatedly treat Gondola Island as part of a chain of controlled movement rather than as an isolated place.
Recovery of a complete Custodian unit from a storage crate beneath the Keeper's House has complicated that assessment. Heavy benches, floor fixings and obsolete cable routes in adjoining basements now suggest that Malin machinery may have been stored, repaired or prepared for assembly on the island before transfer.
